Fort Cavazos, formerly known as Fort Hood, is the largest active duty armored post in the U.S. and is the only post capable of supporting two full armored divisions. In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and the 4th Infantry Division, Fort Cavazos is also home to the Headquarters Command III Corps, along with many other tenant units. With semi-arid terrain comprising over 800 miles of dirt and paved roads, live-fire exercises take place on 50 ranges, plus two scaled-down ranges located throughout the maneuver area.
