NAES Lakehurst is part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL). This three-part Joint Base combines McGuire AFB, Fort Dix, and Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) Lakehurst. They formed in 2009 and together, they’re able to support just about anything today. However, while they’re all combined and relatively close in proximity to one another (Lakehurst is about 30 minutes northeast of the other two, while McGuire AFB and Fort Dix are adjacent to each other), they each serve their mission.

Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst supports and develops “the Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment and Support Equipment for naval aviation. The Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and the Advanced Arresting Gear system that will replace the existing steam catapults and the Mk-7 arresting gear are being developed and tested at Lakehurst at full-scale shipboard representative test facilities here.”

NAES Lakehurst lies on the eastern boundary of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The station is located within the Pineland National Reserve in Ocean County, NJ, approximately 14 miles west of the New Jersey shoreline.
The location makes it the perfect place for easy weekend destinations. With less than a two-hour drive, you can escape to the Big Apple or the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia). This means that yummy food, incredible entertainment, and unforgettable culture and attractions are well within reach. And toward the east, you have scenic Atlantic views to help you reset and unwind.

The good news: the average unemployment rate is less in the Trenton area than the state average. McGuire AFB is the largest employer nearby (second largest in the state) and employs off-duty military, civilians, and offers a Military Spouse Preference Program, which can help you settle into a new job more quickly.
