Welcome to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base!
Located in east-central North Carolina, this Air Force base is front and center to the irresistible culture that gives this state its charm. Home to the 4th Fighter Wing and the 916th Air Refueling Wing, you can expect to hear jets zooming overhead. Thankfully, the local community is well aware and embraces their presence — the Wings over Wayne air show is a favorite around here.
With an extensive history dating back to WWII, the 4th Fighter Wing and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base has earned the nickname “Fourth but First.” This remarkable group is known for spearheading several operations throughout our nation’s history and receiving the Commander-In-Chief’s Installation Excellence Award in 2000, recognizing them for their quality in life and job enhancement.
The base falls under Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Virginia, and deploys Airmen regularly in support of overseas contingency operations. The base is also home to the only two F-15E Formal Training Units in the United States Air Force.
