The USCG maintains a presence in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina.  Station Hatteras Inlet is located on Hatteras Island near the southern end and is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.  Continuing north along North Carolina State Highway 12, the road that traverses the northeastern shoreline linking the islands of the Outer Banks together, the Coast Guard's presence extends to the Sector Field Office (SFO) Cape Hatteras which is located in Nags Head, NC.  Nearby across the sound from SFO Cape Hatteras in Nags Head, is the town of Manteo, on Roanoke Island.
