Naval Air Station Key West, FL, is the U.S. Navy's premier training station for tactical aviation squadrons. The location is known for its great weather and air space. Also located at the air station is the Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Detachment. This detachment provides forecasting services seven days a week from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. However, forecasting services become available around the clock if weather conditions warrant.

NAS Key West is located in Boca Chica Key—the second to last major island in the Florida Keys. However, the naval station has a couple of annexes on Key West, a ten-minute drive from the base.
While you’ll find gorgeous reefs and explore ocean life at the sanctuary, Islamorada, Marathon, and Key West serve as the best places to cast a line and catch fish. Miami sits 163 miles northeast of NAS Key West and is about an hour flight or three and a half-hour drive from Boca Chica, making it a fun destination for a weekend getaway trip.
Fun Fact: NAS Key West is located within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
